The Coco Palms resort became famous shortly after it’s opening, playing host to Hollywood as the wedding scene for Elvis Presley in the movie, Blue Hawaii. The following blog discusses this and introduces the Pineapple House, a vacation rental that is literally across the street from Coco Palms.

Celebrate the useful and tasty coconut Saturday and Sunday at Kaua‘i’s 15th annual Coconut Festival presented by the Kapa‘a Business Association, a news release states.
In addition to entertainment, crafts, games, exhibits and cooking shows, on Sunday afternoon only, the festival will feature a coconut cook-off contest.
Anyone can enter a dish in either a first course or dessert category — just make sure that coconut is an ingredient.
The contest will be judged by professional chefs and island celebrities, the release states. Prizes will be awarded.
Admission to the festival is free; donations are requested. Application form are available on the web at www.kbakauai.org.
The festival takes place at Kapa‘a Beach Park (next to the Kapa‘a Library) from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

For generations locals and visitors have enjoyed Puhi’s relatively hidden Kipu Falls in Kauai, with its deep pool ideal for swimming, its rock ledge for diving and its popular rope swing.
Access to the falls has traditionally meant hiking across land owned by Grove Farm. The land management and community development company announced Wednesday that it has begun building a fence that will block access to the falls from Grove Farm land.
